The two techniques available to sculpt your new designer brows are Micropigmentation (Machine) and Microblading (Hand tool).
I still consult ladies that find it hard to distinguish what the difference is between Microblading and Micropigmentation. So, in a simple explanation, here is the difference:
Both procedures require all steps leading up to the implanting of pigment into the skin. For example; a full consultation, patch test and health check prior to the day of the procedure is essential. Face-mapping (a term used to measure, align and draw the desired brow to be applied) which can (and should) take up to an hour to perfect so that the technician creates the shape to which she will work within. Both above procedures also require a 4-6 week top up to fill any areas that haven’t held or if the healed colour needs to be darker.
Microblading:
A technique that does NOT use a machine. A simple, sterile and disposable hand held tool is used by the technician to dip into the chosen pigment and (here comes the scarey word…..) ‘sliced’ through the skin to create a fine, hair-like line. The end result should appear just as natural hairs would lay, so gaps between the lines should be visible and hairs should sit realistically (messy) and not as parallel lines equally laid out. This technique suits most skins (not oily!), and for someone with a sparse/ hair free brow or a full brow needing more depth and body/ shape to their natural brow. You should expect a top up/ colour boost at around 12 months depending on your skin type and age.
Micropigmentation:
This technique uses a machine and sounds exactly like a tattoo machine with a light vibration. The current trends of brows are ‘powdered’ or ‘Ombre’ and most prefer to work with a single 0.25 or 0.30 needle to achieve the finest dusting appearance on the brow, which mimics the application of a powder makeup. There is no solid boarder, just a soft edge finish, which gives an overall soft powder appearance. The machine ‘dots’ the pigment into the skin and implants very slightly deeper than the Microblading technique. This style suits a brow that does already have some natural hair present, most ages of skin and will also hold well for oily skins of which Microblding does not suit. You should expect a top up or colour boost 12-18 months.
I hope this helps define the difference between Microblading and Micropigmentaiton.
